No Tour of Homes This Christmas
DELAVAN — The Delavan Renovation Society will not host its annual Tour of Homes this year after a lack of homeowners willing to participate made the event impractical, representatives told the Delavan City Council during its recent meeting.
Society members Gina Bury and Diana Christensen informed council members that, rather than organizing the tour, the group will focus its efforts on holiday activities downtown. This year’s Christmas decorating theme, “An American Christmas,” will celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary with patriotic displays throughout the downtown district.
The society also announced plans to dedicate the city’s Christmas tree, located on Locust Street between Third and Fourth streets, on Saturday, Dec. 12. Organizers scheduled the event to coincide with the American Legion’s popular Chicken and Fish Dinner, hoping additional visitors will join the community celebration.
As part of the tree dedication, organizers plan a special remembrance tribute honoring Americans killed in the attack on Pearl Harbor. The tree will be decorated with individual cards of remembrance, one for each American who lost their life in the Dec. 7, 1941, attack. Society members said the tribute will provide a meaningful opportunity for residents to reflect on a pivotal moment in American history while celebrating the holiday season.
