Garry A. Slabaugh

Garry Alvin Slabaugh, 72, of Delavan, Illinois, passed away on August 11, 2026, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born on April 2, 1954, in Pekin, Illinois, to Glenn and Marjorie (Hailey), Garry lived a full and vibrant life marked by curiosity, compassion, and a sharp wit.

Garry graduated from Pekin High School before earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Illinois State University. Never one to stop learning, he went on to complete an Associate in Applied Science in Respiratory Therapy from Illinois Central College. He dedicated 32 years to his career as a Respiratory Therapist, practicing across Illinois, Florida, California, and Nevada, touching countless lives and caring for some famous folks along the way.

Anyone who knew Garry knew he was impossible not to like. Funny, charming, and wonderfully easygoing, he had a way of making people feel comfortable and welcome the moment they met him. His great sense of humor could light up any room, and he carried that warmth into everything he did.

Garry was a man of many passions. An avid fan of motorcycles, he loved the open road and the freedom it offered. He was a devoted music lover and a published Christian Rock photographer whose work appeared in multiple textbooks and movie documentaries, capturing the energy and spirit of the early 1970’s music he cherished. When he wasn’t behind the lens or on three wheels, you could often find him deep in a theology book, feeding his ever-curious mind. He was also a proud member of the Optimist Club of Delavan and a supporter of the Rafiki Children’s Home, always looking for ways to give back.

In 2004, Garry married Linda Condon, and together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Slabaugh, who was his partner and greatest companion.  Also surviving are two brothers, Barry (Cathy) Slabaugh of Schaumburg and Jarry (Zhen) Slabaugh of Delavan, Illinois.  He also leaves several nieces and nephews.

A devout Christian, Garry made his faith the foundation of his life. He lived with purpose, loved deeply, and trusted fully in God’s promises. His family takes comfort knowing he is now in the presence of his Lord and Savior. Heaven just got even more fun.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church, 305 N. Locust Street, Delavan, Illinois 61734, followed by a funeral service officiated by Pastor Daniel Bishop from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Burial will be private. All are invited to a celebratory meal immediately following the funeral at Bashar’s Italian American Cuisine, 410 Locust Street, Delavan, Illinois 61734, from 12 to 2:30 p.m.
