Crane Creek swelled beyond its banks in Lake Park, contributing to widespread flooding.

Delavan Hit by Torrential Rain, Flooding Roads and Basements

DELAVAN — An extreme rain event dumped approximately 8 inches of precipitation on Delavan and surrounding areas over a 48-hour period, causing widespread flooding and travel disruptions.

Numerous roads, particularly those in low-lying areas and near waterways such as the Mackinaw River and Crane Creek, were submerged and closed to through traffic as rising water overtook roadways. Local officials urged motorists to avoid flooded routes and heed closure signs.

The flooding also washed out the Linden Street bridge in Lake Park for the latest of several times, as swollen waters from Crane Creek surged through the area and damaged the crossing.

Residents across the community spent much of the storm addressing water intrusion in basements, operating sump pumps, moving valuables, and working to limit damage. Cleanup efforts began as waters gradually receded.
