Delavan FFA Honored at State Convention

SPRINGFIELD — Members of the Delavan FFA chapter joined more than 5,000 fellow FFA members, advisors, and guests at the 98th annual Illinois State FFA Convention, held June 9–11 in Springfield. The three-day event, themed “Sparking Your Future,” celebrated student achievement in agriculture, recognized outstanding chapters and individuals, and included the election of the state FFA officer team.

During the convention, Delavan FFA members earned notable recognition for their accomplishments. Annabelle LaFary was awarded the Illinois State FFA Degree, the highest honor bestowed by the Illinois Association. The degree recognizes members who have demonstrated excellence in their supervised agricultural experience programs, along with leadership, participation, and academic achievement. Fewer than 2 percent of FFA members statewide receive this prestigious distinction each year.

In addition, the Delavan FFA chapter was named a section winner in the Strengthening Agriculture division of the National Chapter Award program. This award highlights chapters that actively promote member involvement, financial responsibility and a positive image of agriculture, while also building relationships with community groups and agricultural partners. The Strengthening Agriculture award is sponsored statewide by Farm Credit Illinois.

Students attending the convention also participated in a variety of activities, including a career fair featuring colleges and agribusiness organizations and opportunities to explore the history of Illinois’ capital city. Convention sessions included addresses from National FFA Central Region Vice President Claire Woeppel of Nebraska, as well as remarks from retiring Illinois state FFA officers.

The Delavan FFA chapter’s success at this year’s convention reflects its ongoing commitment to leadership, service and agricultural education.
