Panthers Fall to Brimfield/Elmwood Despite Early Spark
The Delavan Varsity Panthers opened Thursday’s home matchup with promise, but a late surge by Brimfield/Elmwood resulted in a 13–1 setback for the Panthers.
Delavan struck first in the bottom of the second, capitalizing on a wild pitch to bring a runner home and take a brief 1–0 lead. The Panthers showed patience at the plate early and looked poised to build momentum behind a steady defensive effort.
Brimfield/Elmwood, however, swung the game in the third, pushing across five runs to move ahead. The visitors followed with an eight‑run fourth inning that widened the gap beyond reach.
Trace Kight‑Garlisch started on the mound for Delavan, working three and one‑third innings and striking out three. Despite the tough outing, the Panthers continued to battle defensively, turning two clean double plays to halt potential damage in the later frames.
Offensively, Delavan was limited to one hit on the day, a single from Corie Green. The Panthers continued to show discipline at the plate and hustle on the bases, but consistent opportunities proved hard to come by against a strong opposing pitching performance.
Delavan now looks to regroup and reset as they move deeper into the season. With several competitive outings already under their belt, the Panthers remain focused on growth, execution and bouncing back in their next contest.
