Dare Closes Collegiate Career With Conference Title, and a Magna Cum Laude Degree
The Delavan community has one more reason to be proud this week, as North Central College senior Owen Dare capped his collegiate running career with a championship finish and an academic milestone.
Competing Saturday at the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) Track & Field Championships in Kenosha, Wisconsin, Dare surged to victory in the 1500‑meter run, crossing the line in a stunning 3:59.15. The win marked the final race of his college career—an ending as strong as the years of dedication that led him there.
Dare, a standout on the North Central roster, didn’t have long to rest on his achievement. On Sunday, May 3, he walked across the stage and graduated magna cum laude with a degree in exercise science, earning academic honors that reflect the same discipline he brought to the track.
He is the son of Mike and Lisa Dare of Hopedale and the grandson of proud Delavan resident Walt Dare, who shared the news and photo with the Dispatch.
From Hopedale to Naperville to conference champion, Dare’s final collegiate weekend showcased the full measure of his commitment—speed, scholarship and a finish that won’t soon be forgotten.
