Clubber Oakley Endres gleefully adds her pie to the growing collection on Pastor Andy, sealing the kids’ hard?earned, whipped?cream?covered victory after surpassing their fundraising goal.

Awana Program Celebrates End of Season of Learning, Service and Joy at Baptist Church

The multi‑denominational Awana program hosted by Delavan Baptist Church wrapped up its 2025–26 season on Sunday, May 3, with a joyful banquet and awards ceremony that filled the fellowship hall with families, volunteers and plenty of proud smiles. Participants were recognized with certificates of achievement for completing their year of Scripture memorization, lessons and service activities—milestones that reflect months of dedication from both students and leaders.

The evening’s keynote message was delivered by Awana Missionary Ken Krup, who traveled from South Elgin to celebrate with the Delavan community. Krup, who serves 36 counties across Illinois, encouraged the crowd with stories of how Awana programs statewide are shaping young lives through faith, mentorship and consistent discipleship. His message drew warm applause from the assembled families and volunteers.

Following the ceremony, attendees enjoyed a spaghetti dinner and a dessert table that featured the legendary Miss Linda’s brownies—a treat so beloved that regulars simply say, “If you know, you know.” Laughter and conversation filled the room as families shared a meal and reflected on the year’s accomplishments.

The celebration also included one of Awana’s most anticipated traditions. Because the clubbers exceeded their $150 fundraising goal, the kids earned the right to give Pastor Andy a pie in the face—a moment met with cheers, giggles and plenty of whipped cream. The lighthearted tradition has become a favorite way to close out the season, reinforcing the program’s blend of fun, fellowship and purpose.

Awana—an acronym for Approved Workmen Are Not Ashamed, drawn from 2 Timothy 2:15—is a global children’s ministry focused on helping kids know, love and serve Christ. The program blends Scripture memorization, age‑appropriate lessons and interactive activities to build a strong foundation of faith and character.
