Panthers Fall 17–6 to Midwest Central Despite Strong Offense
The Delavan Varsity Panthers couldn’t keep pace with a heavy hitting Midwest Central squad on Wednesday, falling 17–6 in a game that saw early scoring swings and a determined effort from Delavan’s lineup.
Midwest Central struck quickly in the top of the first, stringing together multiple extra base hits and run producing swings to build an early lead. The visitors added another run in the second and continued to apply pressure throughout the afternoon, including a five run burst in the sixth that widened the gap.
Delavan turned to its bullpen early, with six innings of relief work helping stabilize the game. The Panthers’ reliever tallied seven strikeouts while allowing eight hits and nine runs. Delavan’s starter worked the opening frame, giving up five hits and eight runs—three of them earned.
Offensively, the Panthers showed grit and patience at the plate. Addi Fisher powered the middle of the order with three RBIs and finished 2-for-4. Delavan collected multiple hits from Fisher, Jaylyn Diekhoff, Maddie Lowers, and Karsyn Kramer, while McKinzey Ring drew three walks to help spark scoring opportunities. As a team, the Panthers worked five walks and swiped four bases, taking advantage of every chance to generate momentum.
Midwest Central finished with 13 hits and demonstrated similar patience at the plate, drawing seven walks and stealing five bases to keep pressure on Delavan’s defense.
The Panthers’ scheduled matchup at Eureka on Saturday was cancelled. Delavan will look to regroup and build on its offensive highlights as the season continues.
