Hudson Briggs winds into his delivery, locking in as he fires toward the plate for the Panthers.

Panthers’ Early Lead Slips Away in Loss to Farmington

The Delavan Varsity Panthers came out swinging Monday night, jumping ahead 4–1 in the first inning, but a massive fourth inning surge by Farmington turned the game, handing Delavan a 17–4 loss at home.

Farmington opened the scoring with a run on an error in the top of the first. Delavan responded with its best offensive frame of the night: Trace Kight-Garlisch drove in two with a single, Hudson Briggs added an RBI single of his own, and Hunter Lusher brought in another run on a productive out to give the Panthers a 4–1 advantage.

Farmington tied the game in the second on a single to center, then moved ahead 6–4 in the third with an RBI double and another run scoring on an error.

The fourth inning proved decisive. Farmington pushed across 10 runs on seven hits, aided by multiple Delavan miscues, a wild pitch, and a series of RBI singles and walks that steadily widened the gap.

Briggs took the loss for Delavan, working 2.2 innings and allowing six runs—only one earned—on three hits while striking out three. At the plate, he remained one of the Panthers’ bright spots, finishing 2-for-2. Kight-Garlisch and Briggs each drove in a run as Delavan built its early lead.

Farmington finished with 12 hits and four stolen bases, playing error free defense throughout.

Delavan’s scheduled Friday game at Bushnell Prairie City was canceled. Saturday’s matchup against Lexington has been moved to a 1 p.m. first pitch, placing it past this week’s press deadline.

The Panthers will look to reset as they continue their early season slate.
