Cindy Elizabeth Spain
Cindy Elizabeth Spain, aka “Nana,” 67, of Delavan, Illinois, passed away on January 25, 2026, in Delavan. Born on January 22, 1959, in Pekin, Illinois, to Raymond Earsel & Phyllis Annetee Hunt. Cindy brought warmth and laughter into the world from the very beginning.
A proud graduate of San Jose High School in San Jose, Illinois, Cindy made her mark early in life as a trailblazer in women’s athletics. In 1974, she became the second woman to compete in the All-Star State Shootout for women’s basketball—a remarkable achievement that reflected her determination and competitive spirit.
Cindy was known for her fierce passion for life and her unwavering strength. A two-time breast cancer survivor, she faced every challenge with courage and resilience. Her generosity knew no bounds—she truly had a heart of gold and would give you the shirt off her back without hesitation. She was kind, funny, and always knew how to make others feel important. Whether through a well-timed joke or a warm smile, she had a way of lighting up any room she entered.
Her love for collecting treasures—whether from yard sales or junk-picking adventures—was matched only by her joy in giving those finds away to others. Gardening was another of her great passions; she had a green thumb and took pride in nurturing her plants and flowers. Her garden was not just a place of beauty but also a reflection of her nurturing soul.
Cindy was also known as an unbeatable euchre and poker player. Her quick wit and sharp mind made her a formidable opponent at the card table—and the life of any gathering.
She was deeply proud of her family and especially cherished being a mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughters, Alisha Spain (John Castleman) and Kassey Spain (Dan Ring); grandchildren, Chance Castleman, McKinzey and Drake Ring—all of Delavan; as well as numerous nieces and nephews whom she held close to her heart.
Cindy is also survived by her loving sisters: Kim and Bill Wilson of Petersburg, IL, Melody Hill of Lincoln; Melissa Dan Cozihar of Spring Lake, Lori and Greg Briggs of Spring Lake,IL. Josie and Dennis Decker of Delavan; Brandy Hunt of Springfield, IL, and brother David Hunt of Fishhook, IL. Each shared a special bond with Cindy that will be forever treasured.
She was preceded in death by her parents Raymond and Phyllis Hunt; her late ex-husband and father of her children Mark Spain; and by two beloved canine companions, Lady and Buddy.
Cindy’s legacy is one of strength, humor, generosity, and boundless love. She lived fully—with grit in adversity and joy in everyday moments—and leaves behind memories that will continue to inspire all those who knew her. May her memory bring comfort to those who loved her most.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For those wanting to make memorial contributions an account for the grandkids in lieu of Cindy Spain, at the Bank of Pontiac in Delavan, IL.
