Panthers Open Season at Bill Ruck Tournament

The Delavan High School Varsity Boys Basketball team tipped off their 2025–26 season at the annual Bill Ruck Thanksgiving Tournament in Mt. Pulaski, facing a mix of challenges and triumphs in their first week of play.

The Panthers stumbled out of the gate, dropping their first two contests before finding their rhythm with a decisive win to close out the week.

Game 1: Edinburg Wildcats 73, Delavan Panthers 52

On Tuesday, November 25, the Panthers fell to the Edinburg Wildcats in a tough 73–52 loss. Senior forward Grady Burrell led the team with 16 points and 15 rebounds, while Hudson Briggs contributed 14 points along with 8 rebounds, 8 assists, and 3 steals. James Pagel added 12 points, but the Wildcats’ offensive surge proved too much for Delavan to overcome.

Game 2: Auburn Trojans 55, Delavan Panthers 44

Wednesday’s matchup against Auburn saw the Panthers battle hard but ultimately fall short, 55–44. Briggs again paced the team with 13 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists. Corie Green chipped in 8 points, while Drake Neuendorf, Hunter Lusher, and Trace Kight-Garlisch provided strong defensive play and energy on the court. Despite their efforts, Auburn’s balanced attack kept Delavan from closing the gap.

Game 3: Delavan Panthers 64, Litchfield Purple Panthers 53

The Panthers roared back on Friday, November 28, securing their first win of the season with a 64–53 victory over Litchfield. Burrell posted another double-double with 15 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists. Briggs matched his teammate with 15 points and 4 assists, while Lusher delivered a standout performance off the bench, sparking momentum that carried Delavan to the win.

Weather Cancels Saturday Games

Heavy snow and hazardous driving conditions forced the cancellation of Saturday’s scheduled tournament games, cutting short the Panthers’ chance to build on their momentum.

Looking Ahead

The Panthers will return to action on Tuesday, December 2 at 6:00 p.m., traveling to face the Williamsfield Cougars. With their first win under their belt, Delavan looks to build consistency and carry their renewed energy into the next stretch of the season.
