Gagliardi, Tierney Lead Speech Team With First-Place Finishes

The Delavan High School Speech team delivered a powerful performance at the Camelot-CISDA Speech Competition held at Richwoods High School in Peoria this weekend, showcasing talent, poise, and perseverance across both varsity and junior varsity divisions.

Varsity Highlights

  • Seanik Gagliardi brought home top honors with a commanding 1st place in Poetry Reading.
  • Elisha Waggoner demonstrated versatility, placing in three events: 3rd in Special Occasion Speaking, 9th in Prose Reading, and 10th in Impromptu Speaking.
  • Nola Houston and Zoe Minton impressed judges with their emotional range, earning 4th place in Dramatic Duet Acting.
  • Jaylyn Diekhoff also competed in Prose Reading, earning 12th place in a competitive field.

Junior Varsity Achievements

  • Gwen Tierney emerged as a standout, claiming 1st place in both Humorous Interpretation and Special Occasion Speaking.
  • Hayden Koehler and Jaylyn Diekhoff teamed up for a compelling performance, securing 2nd place in Dramatic Duet Acting.
  • Hayden Koehler also placed 4th in Poetry Reading, rounding out a strong showing.
  • Reagan Ziegler and Emma Ross followed closely behind, earning 5th place in the same category.

While the team did not place among the top five overall, their individual successes and collective spirit were undeniable. Coaches and supporters praised the students for their dedication, growth, and sportsmanship throughout the day.

The Delavan community continues to rally behind these young orators as they prepare for future competitions. With talent like this, the season ahead promises even more moments to celebrate.
