Triple Trouble
Water Line Leaks Prompt Widespread Boil Order
It was a high-pressure day for the City of Delavan’s Public Works Department as crews scrambled to contain and repair three separate water line leaks reported Tuesday morning, each compounding the last and expanding the scope of disruption across town.
The first leak was traced to a failed valve at the intersection of 3rd Street and Dickey, affecting both sides of 3rd Street between Locust and Dickey. While attempting to isolate the issue, a second valve failed at 3rd and Locust, triggering a third leak and further complicating repair efforts. Meanwhile, a weakened joint at 2nd and Locust began leaking as well, impacting both sides of 2nd Street between Locust and Dickey.
What began as a localized issue quickly ballooned into a broader emergency. According to a notice posted by the City of Delavan, the affected area now includes:
- 1st Street from Spruce to Elm Street
- Spruce Street from 1st Street to 2nd Street
- Walnut Street from 1st Street to 2nd Street
- Pine Street from 1st Street to “A” Street
- “A” Street from Pine Street to Walnut Street
- Walnut Street from 1st to “A” Street
Water service has been shut off in these areas to allow for repairs. Once service is restored, residents within the impacted zone will be under a boil order until further notice. Blue boil order notices have been posted on affected properties.
City officials urge residents to boil water for at least five minutes before using it for drinking, cooking, or brushing teeth. Public Works crews are working diligently to restore service and ensure water safety.
Updates will be posted on the city’s website and social media channels. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact City Hall directly.
