Consistent and Cool: Burrell Cards 94 at State
Delavan’s own Tenley Burrell made her mark on the fairways last Thursday, September 11, as she competed in the Illinois Elementary School Association (IESA) State Golf Tournament held at Metamora Fields Golf Club.
Burrell, an eighth grader, was one of just 87 student-athletes across the state to qualify for the prestigious event. Facing stiff competition and challenging course conditions, she delivered a poised and consistent performance—carding a 94 overall, with matching scores of 47 on both the front and back nine. Her efforts earned her a 24th-place finish statewide, a remarkable achievement for the young golfer.
Metamora Fields, known for its rolling terrain and strategic layout, tested players’ accuracy and mental toughness throughout the day. Burrell’s steady play and balanced scorecard reflected her preparation and focus, especially impressive given the high-pressure environment of a state-level competition.
As she returns to Delavan Junior High School, Burrell’s accomplishment adds to a growing legacy of local youth excelling in athletics. Her performance not only highlights her individual talent but also serves as inspiration for younger students eyeing future tournaments.
The Delavan Dispatch congratulates Tenley Burrell on her outstanding showing and looks forward to following her continued success on and off the course.
