Panthers Dig Deep for Victory Over Patriots

Delavan Wins Home Opener

The Delavan Panthers varsity volleyball team delivered a thrilling performance Monday night, defeating the Peoria Heights Patriots in a hard-fought three-set match that kept fans on the edge of their seats.

The Panthers came out strong in the opening set, showcasing sharp serves and relentless net play to secure a win. Junior middle hitter Izzy Brothwood (#9) and junior setter Addi Fisher (#11) owned the net, delivering a series of kills that set the tone early and sent a clear message: Delavan came to dominate.

Peoria Heights responded in the second set with renewed energy, capitalizing on a few defensive lapses from Delavan to take the frame. The Patriots proved difficult to contain, racking up points with aggressive swings and smart placement.

But the third set belonged to the Panthers.

With the match on the line, Delavan regrouped and found their rhythm. Libero Willow Gomez anchored the back row with clutch digs, while sophomore Kara Lowry (#1) was a flamethrower in sneakers on the service line. She also delivered an electrifying game-saving spike from the net with the score tied at 24. Sophomore Gwen Tierney delivered the final blow, serving up an ace and securing the Panthers’ victory. The final score: 26–24, igniting an eruption of cheers from the home crowd.

A rowdy cheering section helped power the Panthers through every point. Chants shook the bleachers and rumbled through the rafters, turning the gym into a wall of sound. Panther pride was on full display, and the energy from the stands seemed to fuel the team’s final push.

Fans are encouraged to pack the gym and support the Panthers as they continue their push through conference play.
