Bake It Till You Make It
Little Piggy Bakery Finds Its Flavor in Delavan
In a cozy kitchen tucked just off the west side of town, the scent of fresh sourdough mingles with the warmth of family tradition. Reka Brooks (née Jeckel), daughter of longtime Delavan pig farmer Scott Jeckel, has found a way to honor her roots while rising to meet a delicious new calling: baking.
Her home-based venture, Little Piggy Bakery, is more than just a clever name—it’s a tribute to her upbringing and a nod to the legacy of local agriculture. “It’s a really fun connection,” Brooks says with a smile. “Cute and funny, too.”
Reka is married to Nathan Brooks, a mathematics teacher at Delavan High School, and together they’ve built a life rooted in education, community, and creativity. After attending college in Indiana, Reka began experimenting with baking while living there, drawn in by a social media trend focused on sourdough. She started completely from scratch, even cultivating her own starter. “I was baking all my own bread,” she recalls. “Then friends started asking if I could make some for them—and that’s when the idea for the bakery really took off.”
Today, Little Piggy Bakery offers a rotating selection of artisan breads, tender scones, and cookies that balance rustic charm with refined flavor. Brooks is still in the thick of experimentation, finding creative ways to incorporate sourdough into unexpected treats.
The bakery also celebrates the seasons with limited-time specials, and this fall’s lineup is a cozy, crave-worthy collection. Highlights include:

Though the bakery is small and homegrown, its impact is already rippling through the community. And for Brooks, the joy is in the process—kneading dough, testing recipes, and sharing something meaningful with neighbors. You’ll find her baked goods not only through direct orders, but also at the Tremont Farmers Market.
As Delavan continues to celebrate its agricultural heritage and entrepreneurial spirit, Little Piggy Bakery stands as a sweet reminder that sometimes, the best ideas rise from humble beginnings—and a little starter.
