At its regular Thursday meeting on August 14, the Delavan Optimist Club welcomed a special guest: Highland Optimist Club President Terry Lammers, who presented on his club’s successful Avenue of Flags program and offered strategic suggestions for growing and strengthening Delavan’s own Optimist chapter.
Lammers’ visit was especially notable given Highland’s recent recognition as Optimist International’s Club of the Year for 2023–24, a distinction awarded for outstanding service, innovation, and community impact.
During his presentation, Lammers outlined how the Avenue of Flags program has become both a patriotic tradition and a sustainable fundraiser in Highland. The initiative involves placing American flags at homes and businesses on key holidays throughout the year, with community members subscribing to the service in support of local youth programs.
In addition to sharing the logistics and promotional strategies behind the program, Lammers encouraged Delavan members to explore new outreach efforts, strengthen partnerships, and consider creative ways to engage volunteers and donors.
The Delavan Optimist Club continues to meet regularly to support youth initiatives and foster community pride.
