Delavan Youths Light up Peoria Stage in Beetlejuice JR

This summer, three spirited performers from Delavan—Seanik Gagliardi, Cash Calsyn-Grys, and Lyx Houston—brought their talents to the Peoria Players Summer Youth Theatre production of Beetlejuice JR, a musical adaptation of the cult classic film that celebrates supernatural chaos with a comedic twist.

Fresh off their roles in the Delavan High School production of Oklahoma!, the trio continued their theatrical momentum in Peoria. Their previous performance showcased their vocal strength and stage presence in a beloved Americana tale; in Beetlejuice JR, they channeled that experience into the wildly imaginative world of the Netherworld, where quirky ghosts and outrageous antics reigned supreme.

Each young actor had earned recognition in Delavan for their contributions to Oklahoma!, demonstrating a commitment to ensemble performance and community theater. Their seamless transition from frontier drama to haunted hilarity spoke to their range and enthusiasm for storytelling through music and movement.

Alison Knapik, who directed Oklahoma! at Delavan High School, praised her former cast members. “I am so proud of all three of my students. Many Delavan students participate in travel and club sports teams over the summer, building their skills for their school sports seasons. I am so excited that my drama students have enough talent and interest to be seeking extra practice and performance over the summer months as well!”

As cast members of Beetlejuice JR, Seanik, Cash, and Lyx joined a dynamic ensemble drawn from across Central Illinois. They brought energy to scenes packed with choreography, harmonies, and ghoulish charm—proof that Delavan’s youth are leaving a vivid mark on regional arts.

The Peoria Players Theatre hosted Beetlejuice JR August 6–9 at 7:30 p.m. nightly, with a matinee performance on August 10 at 2:00 p.m. Delavan residents turned out to support these young artists as they extended the spirit of their hometown onto a broader stage.
