Shifting Storefronts: a Look at Business Changes in Delavan
It’s been a season of visible change for Delavan’s small business landscape, as longtime storefronts close, shift, and even change color across town.
The most notable closure came on June 25, when Delavan Easy Care Pharmacy officially ended operations at 402 Pine Street, leaving the city without a locally operated pharmacy for the first time in recent memory. That location, a quiet fixture at the corner of Pine and Third Streets, has served various pharmaceutical enterprises for decades, including Delavan Family Pharmacy.
Just one block away, another business wrapped up its presence: the Anthem Insurance office at 324 S. Locust Street has also closed its doors, concluding a nine-year run in Delavan. The closure of this office leaves clients to travel to their remaining office in Tremont.
In brighter, more colorful news, the Davis-Oswald Funeral Home, a familiar landmark on 3rd Street, is receiving a thoughtful facelift. The building, long known for its white exterior, is being updated with a dusky blue coat of paint—a subtle yet striking refresh for a structure that has stood largely unchanged for decades.
While these shifts represent the ebb and flow of life in a small town, each change leaves its mark—on routines, on landscapes, and on memory. Delavan continues to adapt, reflecting the rhythm of local resilience
