Lego Lady Brings Creativity to Ayer Public Library’s Summer Reading Program
Excitement filled the Ayer Public Library as April Fisher, known as the "Lego Lady," hosted a special Make and Take Lego Project on June 16, 2025, as part of the library’s summer reading program.
Fourteen children of all ages gathered at The HUB next door to the library, eager to build and take home their own Lego creations. Fisher, a beloved figure in the Lego community, guided participants through the hands-on activity, encouraging creativity and problem-solving skills.
One of the highlights of the event was the construction of a video game controller out of Legos, an original design by Fisher. Kids eagerly followed her instructions, piecing together bricks to form a creative and functional-looking controller, showcasing both artistic and engineering ingenuity.
Originally from Bloomington, Illinois, Fisher now resides in Arkansas but continues to travel extensively, sharing her passion for Lego building. She teaches workshops throughout Illinois, Missouri, and Arkansas, bringing her expertise to schools, libraries, and even senior centers, where she fosters creativity and hands-on learning for all ages.
With 40 years of experience building with Legos and 20 years of teaching, Fisher has become a respected figure in the Lego community. She is also a regular participant at Brickworld, the premier annual Lego convention, where enthusiasts gather to showcase their creations and share their passion for the iconic building blocks.
Fisher has been a regular guest presenter at the Ayer Public Library for about seven years, delighting local children and families with her interactive Lego workshops. Each year, she hosts a summer reading session and a Christmastime session, continuing to spark creativity and learning through hands-on building experiences.
During this year’s event, Fisher was assisted by Ayer Library’s own Natalie Lessen, who helped facilitate the workshop and support young builders in their creative endeavors. Lessen’s involvement ensured a smooth and engaging experience for participants, reinforcing the library’s commitment to hands-on learning.
The event required registration and a small $2 fee, ensuring that all materials were provided for the young builders. Parents and children alike expressed enthusiasm for the opportunity to engage in a fun, educational experience that combined storytelling with hands-on play.
The Ayer Public Library’s summer reading program continues to offer engaging activities throughout the season, including Brown Bag It Storytime and a Stuffed Animal Sleepover.
