White Resigns From Liquor Commission
Delavan Mayor Adam White has officially resigned from his duties as the city's Liquor Commissioner, citing a potential conflict of interest due to his ownership stake in Trio's Pizzeria, a local restaurant with an active liquor license application before the commission.
White, who as the elected mayor, also serves as Liquor Commissioner, made the decision to step aside to ensure transparency and fairness in the licensing process. His ownership interest in Trio's Pizzeria, which has been seeking approval for a Subclass 2 Liquor License allowing for café seating adjacent to a licensed premises, raised concerns about impartiality in the commission's deliberations.
The Delavan Liquor Commission, responsible for granting and regulating liquor licenses within the city, will now proceed with the application review without White's involvement.
In response to White’s resignation, the Delavan City Council has agreed to nominate and appoint a replacement Liquor Commissioner to ensure continuity in the commission’s operations. The appointment process is expected to take place in the coming weeks.
White, a Marine Corps veteran and real estate agent, has been actively involved in business development efforts in Delavan. His role in the redevelopment of downtown properties, including Trio's Pizzeria, has been a focal point of his tenure as mayor.
The resignation comes at a time when Delavan is experiencing growth in its business sector, with new establishments seeking liquor licenses to enhance their offerings. The Liquor Commission's decision on Trio's Pizzeria's application is expected in the coming weeks.
