Hot Bats, No Mercy!
The Delavan Panthers delivered a commanding performance Wednesday, blanking the Lewistown, Spoon River Valley, and Cuba high schools co-op (LVC) Miners 13-0 in a relentless hit parade. The Panthers' lineup tore through the opposing pitching like a buzzsaw.
The Panthers wasted no time putting runs on the board, erupting in the bottom of the first inning with a six-run surge. Wyatt Pierson (#28) set the tone with a double to center field, while Corbin Soldal (#18), Colton Miller (#15), Cameron McMullen )#21), Corie Green (#11), and Braden Arrenholz (#14) each contributed to the scoring frenzy through a mix of walks and timely hits.
Delavan added another run in the second when Kyi Westbrook (#27) drew a walk, pushing the lead to 7-0. The Panthers weren’t done yet, breaking the game wide open in the third inning with six more runs on seven hits. Pierson struck again with a two-run double, Kelton Nafziger (#33) added an RBI single, and Hudson Briggs (#2) took a hit-by-pitch to force a run home. Green capped off the inning with a two-run single, solidifying Delavan’s overwhelming lead.
On the mound, Arrenholz was nearly untouchable, pitching four stellar innings, allowing just one hit while striking out six and walking one. Green provided a solid relief performance for Delavan, tossing a scoreless inning with one strikeout.
The Panthers' dominance was so overwhelming that the younger players got their chance to shine as the upperclassmen were rotated off the field.
Offensively, Delavan pounded out 12 hits, led by Arrenholz, who went 3-for-4 from the leadoff spot. Green and Pierson drove in three runs each, while Miller, Nafziger, and Bryson Horning (#22) recorded multi-hit performances. Patient at the plate, the Panthers drew six walks and played clean defense, with a dynamite performance at second base by Briggs, who turned a double play to cap off their dominant night.
