Tucked into the heart of downtown Delavan, Ichabod’s Apothecary is more than just a shop—it’s a haven for herbal wellness, offering Illinois’ only dedicated herbal apothecary.

Founded with the mission of reviving traditional remedies, Ichabod’s Apothecary specializes in natural products, from handcrafted tinctures and teas to organic skincare well beyond just soaps and lotions. Being a unique concept came with its own set of challenges. From getting licensed to insuring the shop, founder Tommie Chadwick experienced misunderstanding of her business everywhere she turned. But Chadwick was undaunted in pursuing her dream. “I was like, boy, am I in trouble. So, I started educating,” she said.

“We want to reintroduce people to the power of herbs,” said Chadwick. “There’s so much wisdom in traditional medicine that can complement modern healthcare, and we’re here to provide resources for those wanting to explore that path.”

Chadwick learned herbalism starting at the age of four from her great-grandmother. “I can honestly remember going for walks and she would just explain stuff,” stated Chadwick. “I come from a very traditional family. We made all of our food, we hunted, we didn’t rely on store-bought medicines.”  However, family tradition and passed-down information were not enough for Chadwick. “I went through all of the training to understand the scientific side.”

With its warm, welcoming atmosphere and commitment to sustainable practices, Ichabod’s Apothecary is not just a store—it’s a movement, inspiring more people to embrace natural healing in their everyday lives.
