Pierson Pitches Perfect Game
Panthers Ace Gives Up Nothing
Wyatt Pierson took the mound Friday night and delivered a performance for the history books, striking out 10 batters and allowing zero hits, zero runs, and zero walks as the Delavan Varsity Panthers cruised to a 10-0 victory over the Peoria Heights Varsity Patriots in just five innings.
Pierson was nothing short of dominant, even throwing an immaculate inning in the third, striking out the side on just nine pitches. The Panthers’ defense was flawless, committing no errors, with Kelton Nafziger recording 10 plays to keep Peoria Heights off the scoreboard. The defensive duo of Pierson and Nafziger was unbeatable.
"After that immaculate inning, I felt pretty good, and I just kind of went out there, just kind of punched the ball in there, just kind of did my thing," Pierson said.
Delavan wasted no time getting on the board, scoring in the first inning after an error allowed a run to cross the plate. They extended their lead in the second, fueled by Corie Green’s clutch single, which drove in two runs, followed by Braden Arrenholz’s sacrifice liner, adding another.
The Panthers kept the pressure on as Corbin Soldal’s groundout pushed the lead to 5-0 in the third, and the offense didn’t let up. Hudson Briggs, Green, and Cameron McMullen shined at the bottom of the lineup, combining for four of the team’s seven hits, scoring five runs, and driving in two. Arrenholz and Maddox Dare each tallied two RBIs, proving Delavan’s dominance at the plate.
With a commanding victory and Pierson’s perfect performance, the Panthers head into their next matchup against Tremont with momentum on their side.
