Panthers Come up Short Against Ducks
The Delavan Panthers endured a tough 9-1 loss to the Havana Ducks on Tuesday, despite managing to out-hit their opponents.
The game began with an error in the first inning that allowed Havana to score and take an early lead. However, the Panthers quickly responded in the bottom of the first as Jayley Fisher, number 12, singled down the left field line, driving in a run to tie the game at 1-1.
Havana regained the advantage in the top of the second inning when a dropped third strike led to another run, setting the score at 2-1. From there, Havana seized control of the game, capitalizing on errors and scoring consistently throughout the innings. The Ducks were able to find and exploit weaknesses in the Panthers' defense in just about every inning.
The Panthers’ starter, Lainey Klokkenga, number 9, pitched a full game but faced challenges as Havana scored nine runs—none of them earned—on five hits, with Klokkenga striking out three and walking two.
The "Swat Sisters", Addi and Jayley Fisher, a formidable force batting back-to-back in the lineup, found the Ducks' defense hard to overcome. Jayley Fisher was 1-for-3 at the plate and accounted for the team’s sole run batted in. Teammates Addi Fisher, Lainey Klokkenga, Nola Houston, Kara Lowry, and Miley Harper also contributed one hit each.
The Panthers are set to regroup and take on Spoon River Valley in their next matchup on Monday. Despite the loss, the team is eager to bounce back.
