Illini Bluffs Edges Out Delavan 3-1 in Pitchers' Duel
In a tightly contested matchup on Tuesday, the Illini Bluffs Varsity Tigers emerged victorious, defeating the Delavan Varsity Panthers 3-1 in a game marked by strong performances on the mound from both teams.
The Tigers struck early, scoring in the bottom of the first inning. Brayden Fargher’s single brought in the first run, setting the tone for Illini Bluffs’ calculated offense. The Tigers extended their lead with another run in the fifth inning, aided by their patience at the plate and sharp base running.
Delavan’s starting pitcher, Braden Arrenholz, delivered an impressive performance as well, recording eight strikeouts over four and one-third innings. Despite his efforts, the Panthers couldn’t overcome the early deficit. Arrenholz allowed two runs on four hits, walking five.
Defensively, Delavan shone, playing error-free baseball. Kelton Nafziger anchored the infield with 13 chances handled cleanly. At the plate, Arrenholz had the team’s only hit, showcasing his skills on both sides of the game.
The Delavan Varsity Panthers will look to bounce back in their upcoming home game against Peoria Heights on Friday.
