Glisson Places Fourth at State in 400m Dash
Senior sprinter Nick Glisson capped his Delavan High School career with a powerful State Finals performance, earning fourth place in the Class 1A 400‑meter Dash at the IHSA Track and Field Championships while competing for the Delavan/Illini Central Co‑op.
Glisson crossed the line in 49.27 seconds, finishing just 1.83 seconds behind the state champion in one of the deepest 400m fields Illinois has seen in recent years. His time secured him a spot on the podium and cemented his status as one of the top quarter‑milers in the state.
Running on the blue oval at Eastern Illinois University for the final time, Glisson delivered the kind of poised, disciplined race that has defined his senior season. After a strong opening 200 meters, he held his position through the curve and powered down the homestretch to secure fourth, outleaning several challengers in the final strides.
For Glisson, the moment was both competitive and sentimental. As a senior, this meet marked his final appearance under IHSA competition, closing out a high school career filled with steady improvement, leadership and standout performances for the Co‑op program.
Coaches praised Glisson’s work ethic throughout the spring, noting his consistency in training and his ability to rise to the occasion on championship weekend. His 49.27 finish ranks among the fastest times posted by a Delavan athlete in the event, adding his name to a growing list of Panthers and Illini Central athletes making noise at the state level.
The Delavan/Illini Central Co‑op continues to build momentum in sprint events, and Glisson’s podium finish adds another highlight to a strong season for the combined program. As he graduates, Glisson leaves behind a legacy of determination and competitive spirit—one that younger athletes in the Co‑op will look to carry forward.
