Ignite! Sparks Passion and Purpose for FCCLA

Delavan High School's Chapter of Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, FCCLA, attended its first conference last weekend in Springfield. The Ignite! Conference is an overnight experience that allows members to connect with other FCCLA participants and explore the many opportunities the organization offers. With an inspiring keynote speaker and a variety of workshops, the conference encourages members to expand their FCCLA knowledge and prepare for the year ahead.

Ignite! benefited both new and returning members alike. Workshops on competitive events gave younger members a deep dive into FCCLA and the opportunities it offers. Meanwhile, workshops on topics like summer camp helped broaden the horizons for experienced members, showing that there is always something new to explore in FCCLA.

Delavan’s chapter learned about this year’s FCCLA state project: Special Olympics. This admirable organization offers athletic competitions for individuals with intellectual disabilities, promoting inclusion, confidence, and community through the influence of sports. At the conference, members gained insight on how they can further support this organization through spreading awareness, volunteering for events, or fundraising. Delavan FCCLA looks forward to participating to provide a more positive and inclusive environment for everyone.

“Illinois FCCLA is an incredible organization that empowers students with skills to grow both personally and professionally. By attending the Ignite! Conference students and their FCCLA advisors were able to create a plan for the year, including community service projects and fundraisers,” states State Officer and Delavan Chapter Secretary, Izzy Brothwood. As both a state officer and dedicated FCCLA member, Izzy plays a key role in planning the annual Ignite! Conference and works hard to make it a welcoming environment for everyone.

Overall, Ignite! Conference was an amazing opener for the Delavan FCCLA Chapter’s year. Attending members returned home with new knowledge, renewed passion, and a plan to help make a difference in their school and community. With a blooming plan for the year, Delavan FCCLA is ready to become leaders in the community.
